Players control Popo or Nana, climbing procedurally arranged icy mountains by breaking blocks overhead while avoiding falling icicles and enemies. Clearing the top of a mountain within the time limit leads to a bonus vegetable-collecting round. Its climbing mechanics were later reused for character appearances in other Nintendo titles.
